Silicon Carbide and Film Backing
3M Microfinishing PSA Film Disc 468L is made using micron-graded silicon carbide, which is a popular choice among industrial professionals because of its fast cut and smooth finish. Silicon carbide is a synthetic mineral that is very sharp and commonly used for low-pressure applications, such as sanding and finishing during paint prep. While it breaks down faster than aluminum oxide, this mineral produces a brighter finish.
The 3 mil film backing on Film Disc 468L flexes to help achieve a consistent finish over contours and offers greater tear-resistance than comparable paper products, making it ideal for high-production environments.
Designed for use with a variety of tools including rotary, orbital, and random orbital sanders, this abrasive comes in a range of micron grades for complete multi-step sanding and finishing. The pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) provides flat, easy attachment, holds the disc securely in place during use, and removes cleanly from the backup pad (sold separately).
Open Coat Construction
Abrasives cut better and last longer when dust isn’t clogging the cutting surface of the abrasives. Open coat construction means a less dense coat of abrasive grain, allowing swarf to more easily be evacuated from the abrasive surface. This keeps the cutting edge of the grain free and allows the abrasive to continue cutting even when sanding softwoods, paints, and other materials that tend to load. All of this adds up to better performance, longer abrasive life, increased productivity and reduced material consumption.
Easy PSA Attachment and Applications
The pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) on the back of 3M Microfinishing PSA Film Disc 468L makes disc to tool attachment easy. Attaching them to your disc pad is simple and can be peeled off of the disc pad just as easily, leaving a clean surface for your next disc. PSA discs are used in conjunction with a PSA or 3M Stikit backup pad (also called a disc pad and sold separately) that is attached to a random orbital sander. This disc is used for paint prep, finishing and repair on wood, clear coats, composites and plastics.
3M Science. Improving the Geometry of Parts.
Microfinishing corrects surface irregularities and imperfections to create smoother, better-performing parts and parts that adhere to close tolerances. To improve the geometry of parts and achieve finer finishes, 3M Microfinishing PSA Film Disc 468L is an exceptional choice.
